Lee Jong-seok and Park Shin-hye courted for Pinocchio

Okay, this is one reunion I’m rooting for in dramaland: Lee Jong-seok is considering a reunion with the PD-writer team behind I Hear Your Voice, for their new fall dramaPinocchio. It might actually wash out the part of my brain that went mushy trying to hold onto some semblance of sanity while watching Doctor Stranger. Maybe. It’s too early to count any chickens since he’s just considering the offer, and I’d take the casting rumors with a huge grain of salt since an earlier round initially had Kim Woo-bin in contention for the role for about a minute. Is casting both of them out of the question?
I’m a little less excited about Park Shin-hye being courted to co-star, even though I like her fine in most things… it’s just that Heirs kind of tipped her over for me on the ratio of actress to number of sad Candy characters played, and bad associations linger (to be fair, they do for Lee Min-ho and Kim Woo-bin as well). On the upside, I do actually trust the I Hear Your Voice writer to come up with a heroine who stands up for herself and speaks her mind; on the downside, I’ll probably be sad that Lee Bo-young isn’t playing her.
Pinocchio is SBS’s late-fall Wednesday-Thursday drama from PD Jo Soo-won and writer Park Hye-ryun, that tells the story of young reporters who are on duty ’round the clock at the city news desk in search of the truth. I fully expect the show to do a late reveal that it’s about a hero who has the power to tell if people are lying or something, but maybe it’ll veer away from being a carbon copy of Voice’s setup.
The writer also scripted Dream High, which was an endearing youthful drama about banding together to chase your dreams. I can see Pinocchio melding the two, with reporters instead of laywers and twentysomething dreamers instead of teens. I basically felt like You’re All Surrounded was that setup for cops, so perhaps we can expect something similar for rookie reporters.
I’m sure casting will go through numerous rounds of Will they or won’t they since it’s still August; Pinocchio follows She’s So Lovable (after It’s Okay, It’s Love) in mid-November.

Park Shin Hye Says Yes To 'Pinocchio'

Park Shin Hye

Park Shin Hye's agency, S.A.L.T. Entertainment, has confirmd that she has signed on for the leading role in the upcoming SBS drama "Pinocchio."
The actress will play Choi In Ha, a 20-something rookie reporter who covers local news. Choi In Ha suffers from the very embarrassing "Pinocchio syndrome." If you don't remember the children's story, Pinocchio's problem was that he could not tell a lie. Every time he did his nose grew longer and everyone knew he was lying. Choi In Ha's Pinocchio syndrome takes the form of hiccups. Every time she lies, she begins to hiccup. That may have been why she became a journalist, as reporters are dedicated to searching for the truth.
According to her agency, Park Shin Hye was motivated to take the role of Choi In Ha because of the character's sincere and forthright personality.
It's also possible that Park Shin Hye saw herself in the character. Park Hye Reon, who wrote "I Hear Your Voice" was said to have written "Pinocchio" specifically with Park Shin Hye in mind. Both the director Jo Soo Won, who directed "I Hear Your Voice," and the producer Hwang Ki Young were eager to have Park play the role.
It has been a busy year for the actress with a small screen role in "The Heirs" and her role as a fashion-conscious queen in the film "The Tailors." Her commitment to "Pinocchio" signals her return to the small screen.
The next step is to cast her leading man. Kim Woo Bin originally considered playing Choi Dal Po, the leading male role in "Pinocchio." Choi Dal Po is a smart, witty young reporter with perfect recall. That casting would have been an interesting rematch as Kim Woo Bin played the second lead in "The Heirs." Park Shin Hye previously had a rematch with her "You're Beautiful" second lead Jung Yong Hwa when she co-starred with him in "Heartstrings. But Kim Woo Bin could not fit the drama role into his schedule.
After he declined, Lee Jong Suk Suk was asked if he would like the role. His agency, Wellmade Entertainment, has said that he is considering the offer. The drama's writer and producer are eager to have Lee Jong Suk as they worked with him in the very successful "I hear Your Voice."
Lee Jong Suk recently finished filming "Doctor Stranger," in which he played a North Korean defector and medical genius. He also contributed extra scenes to the Chinese film version of that drama.
Fingers crossed as the chemistry between Park Shin Hye and Lee Jong Suk could sparkle. The series will air in November, following "My Lovely Girl."

Park Shin Hye and Lee Jong Suk May Bring Their Sparkling Chemistry to A New Drama

Park Shin Hye and Lee Jong Suk

Park Shin Hye and Lee Jong Suk did a modeling campaign this year and someone must have noticed how good they looked together. Because the latest news is that they are both considering a role in an upcoming drama about news reporters.
Kim Woo Bin, Lee Jong Suk's good friend and former co-star, previously considered a role in the drama but could not fit it into his schedule as he was filming back-to-back movies, "The Technicians" and then "Twenty."
He was up for the role of Choi Dal Po, a rookie reporter. Now both Lee Jong Suk's agency, Wellmade Entertainment, and Park Shin Hye's agency, S.A.L.T. Entertainment, have confirmed that their stars are considering offers to appear in the SBS drama.
Park Shin Hye is currently filming "The Tailors," a film in which she plays a fashion-conscious queen whose taste in clothes sparks political rivalries. Her last small screen appearance was in "The Heirs" with co-stars Lee Min Ho and Kim Woo Bin.
Lee Jong Suk recently finished filming "Doctor Stranger" about a North Korean defector medical genius and he also contributed extra scenes to the movie version of that drama which was filmed in China.
When you see the two actors interviewed side-by-side their natural chemistry is evident. It's charming how shy they seem around each other. Lee Jong Suk is known for being spontaneous on set, amusing co-stars with his playful antics. Viewers who have seen Park Shin Hye grow up on the small screen might be surprised at how sophisticated she can seem in person or how sweetly mature she is at fan events. The actors are sure to make an interesting drama couple.
He has had some impressive female co-stars, including Lee Bo Young, Kang So Ra and Jin Se Yeon. She has played across from Lee Min Ho, Kim Woo Bin, Jang Geun Suk and Jung Yong Hwa, just to name a few enviable co-stars.
The male lead in this drama is supposed to be super smart, have perfect recall and be very witty. The title "Pinocchio" suggests that one of the leading characters will have a problem telling lies and descriptions of the drama vary as to who it will be. One of the characters will either sneeze or hiccup whenever he or she has to lie.
The drama's scriptwriter Park Hye Ryun and director Jo Soo Won worked with Lee Jong Suk on "I Hear Your Voice," and having seen how good he was in that role, naturally want to have him star in "Pinocchio."
"Pinocchio" will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays in November, following "It's Okay, It's Love" and "My Lovely Girl."
